The red threads and the messengers
Lucky's Chronicles are fictional stories set in the world of iLuckyStones.
Before entering the sixth Field, Lucky met someone.
It was a messenger: it came from outside, from a place Lucky didn't know, and it carried a message of its own. «If you stop and listen to me until the end,» it said, «I'll leave you a life as a gift. If you're in a hurry, no problem: say goodbye and go.»
Lucky thought about it. It was in a hurry, yes, but an extra life would be nice. It listened until the end, and the messenger kept its promise. Another time, later on, Lucky said goodbye and moved on, and the messenger smiled at it all the same. Nobody forced it to do anything: that was what Lucky liked.
Then it entered the Field, and stopped.
The sixth Field was crossed by red threads, thin and taut, pointing in every direction. They weren't thick like the walls before, but there were lots of them, and they moved every time Lucky came in. It had to slip between them like a thread through the eye of a needle.
And all the dangers were there together: the purple spikes, more of them than usual, the black spikes, and the pink drops, which here ran faster than before. Lucky tried asking the presence from above to clear them away, as in the earlier Fields. But here the pink drops would no longer let themselves be touched. They could only be avoided.
The purple spikes, on the other hand, could still be touched, and were worth fifty points. The presence from above knew that well. Lucky rolled, the presence tapped, and together they went further than either could alone.
It was the longest Field of all. It took eighty thousand points to get out, and at one point Lucky wondered whether it was worth it. Then it thought of the stones of the first Field, still for a hundred years, and set off again.
At eighty thousand the Field opened. The glowing words said:
All the way, without fear.
To be continued in the next episode.
Level 6: eighty thousand points to get out. Here the pink drops are faster and can no longer be tapped.
