The Field that changed shape
Lucky's Chronicles are fictional stories set in the world of iLuckyStones.
Lucky rolled into the fourth Field and happened to catch its reflection in a yellow drop.
It was blue.
Not a little blue: blue from head to toe, if a stone had toes. It thought about it and realised this wasn't the first time. In the second Field it had turned green, in the third purple. Nobody had noticed, not even Lucky. It had just happened, while it was too busy rolling.
«So am I not me any more?» it asked out loud.
«You're still you,» said a passing yellow drop. «You've just changed clothes.»
But the fourth Field had another surprise. The walls were crooked, scattered here and there like fallen sticks. And every time Lucky came back, it found them somewhere else. The one that had been top left the day before now blocked the way in the middle. Lucky couldn't learn the Field by heart: it had to look at it with new eyes every time.
And then they came back. The black spikes, the same ones Lucky had kept well away from in the second Field. Here they darted fast, without warning, from every side. If one caught you, it took two lives with it.
Lucky looked for a star to put a few lives back in its pocket. It looked for one, then another. Nothing. In that Field there were simply no stars. The lives it had were the lives it had, and they had to be looked after.
Luckily the presence from above was there. Every time a black spike headed for Lucky, the soft tip came down and made it vanish. Sometimes it touched the pink drops too, which in that Field could be cleared away like that.
Meanwhile Lucky chased the green spikes: big, shiny, a hundred points each. They darted about too, but towards no one in particular.
At twenty thousand the Field opened up. Lucky was still blue, and no longer minded. The glowing words said:
Change is continuous and in everything: do not fear it.
To be continued in the next episode.
Level 4: the walls move every game, the black spikes are back and there are no stars. Every life counts.
